By Endurance Onun:
One of the presidential aspirants in the forthcoming University of Calabar Post Graduate Students Government (PGSG), Rev. John Ololo has cleared the air on some of the issues that emanated from his interest declaration day event.
Recall that MoonRayNews, on ground at the event, reported that Rev. John Ololo, whom the report claimed is a senior pastor in Assemblies of God declared his interest to contest for the office of PGSG president in a beer bar while serving attendees at the event some bottles of liquor.
According to the said report, dated 21st April, 2021, Rev. Ololo, believed to be sent by God Almighty to rescue PGSG was supposed to have made public his rescue mission in a church meeting, perhaps, in a solemn assembly and not at a beer bar, per a Pastor that he is.
This, no doubt divided the opinion of many as most persons were rather of the position that a man on a rescue mission from God could not have launch such a mission in a beer bar serving the people he was supposed to rescue liquor instead of the Holy Spirit.
Rev. John Ololo who decided to react to the report courtesy of its overbearing dust, yesterday, chatted MoonRayNews on phone to register his difference objectively on the said report which he assert was a mere political distraction, even as he wondered the need for such extend.
According to Rev. Ololo, the Assemblies of God church should not be dragged into his students’ union engagement since his union engagement was courtesy of his status as a student and not a pastor nor representative of Assemblies of God church.
The Reverend who emphatically denied that he is a Senior Pastor in Assemblies of God, stated rather, that he is but just an Assistant Pastor even also as he denied the claim by the 21st April, 2021 report that served his audience liquor — disclaiming that he never declared his interest to contest for the post of PGSG president with bottles of liquor. He held stoutly that he never gave anyone a bottle of beer as he has never touched a liquor bottle from his birth. “Those that were drinking liquor around the venue were doing that on their own even before the commencement of the event. And none of the persons who drank liquor was being served by me,” Rev. Ololo said verbatim.
On his academic background, the Clergyman said he finished from the School of Theology as the best student 17 years ago beforewhich he got admitted into the University of Calabar only in furtherance of his educational pursuit whereof he obtained his first degree in English Education (Hons) with a Second Class Upper division.
On combining his ministerial assignment and students’ unionism, Rev. Ololo said he was a Sandwich Students’ Union Government President during his undergraduate days, going about the union business with high level of moral, spiritual decency and decorum devoid of abuse of his faith which he said he holds in high esteem as well as an examplary lifestyle.
On why he did not declare his interest in a church meeting, he said; “since the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that there is time for everything, it is against [my] ministerial ethics to turn an event meant for declaration of interest to a holyghost baptism, crusade or a revival meeting”.
